2020 Has been a challenging year for many!

When I heard that there was a major Pandemic and things would be shutting down it was I believe March 13th.  I had 3 events scheduled that weekend and they were all still on.  We had no idea what to expect.  The first job was actually a lighting job for a Gender Reveal.  We Provided a room full of lighting and uplighting that at the right moment shined the color of BLUE!  It’s a BOY!  The event went flawless and it seemed that all of the guests had shown up and nothing was really different.  I kept a little distance from the Mom to be because i though it was the right thing to do.

Event #2

was later that day and we were providing DJ/MC and Lighting services for a local Police Fund Raiser.  The Night of March 14th was alot different than that of the morning/afternoon gig.  The turnout was about half of what it usually is.  I guess bad news travels fast and the news had ramped up.  No real change in how guests acted towards one another except that the pandemic was the talk of the town.

Event #3

Sunday night was supposed to have approximately 160 Guests.  March 15th my world changed.  About 100 People did not show up for this Wedding which was in a very nice local venue.  Myself and my fiance were providing DJ/MC, Lighting and Photobooth services to what turned out to be a very empty ballroom.  Upon our arrival we were all starting to keep a little distance between the staff, ourselves and guests as we all had a little fear running through our veins.  We made the most out of the event as we possibly could, the Bride and Groom were happy with us, but a bit disappointed in a ton of no call, no shows at the time.  (seemed crazy at the time) Started to feel like another world.  What were we in for?

After that weekend our business was in for a big change.  The next few Months would be nothing but date changes and cancellations.  We were happy that we could reschedule 90% of our dates.  We had to lose some to straight up cancellations due to uncertainty and some to not having availability.  This was and still is a struggle.  I have been lucky to be able to have a number of outside Weddings and a few indoors in the last couple of months and they were different.  Were they very different?  Some were, some weren’t.

I experienced a few different Wedding Crowds.  Some that you would have never known there was a Pandemic, some that had an air of caution and one that felt a bit like everyone had cooties.  Our staff wore mask’s into all of the facilities and followed all of the regulations that were told to us if any.  We brought our own sanitizer and tried to social distance the best we could.  I accepted requests from people who would approach me and through text message.  A good percentage of people would keep a little distance but alot didnt and do not.  I found myself turning my head away alot as people had to speak loudly to request music as it tends to get a little loud near the DJ.  😉  Besides that people tend to shout a bit after a few drinks.  lol  The most recent event looked pretty normal from where I was standing.  I was masked up and kinda surprised by how many people were not when they left their tables.  There was plenty of dancing and singing for a very successful Wedding.  I have not heard of any cases of the Virus from any event that I have attended, knock on wood and cross my fingers that I do not.

With all of the reschedules for 2021 we have noticed a shift in bookings.  The dates are now going well into 2022 as it seems that it is a safer bet of being Pandemic-less.  I HOPE THEY ARE RIGHT!

WE ARE STILL HERE!
